The brief

Starbucks was building on Shopify for the first time, with Inviqa as delivery partner. The team had no in-house Shopify experience, and the store needed to work with a third-party rewards system and offer coffee subscriptions.

What we did

Mark joined as Principal Tech Lead, owning the technical architecture and acting as the team's Shopify lead.

  • Architecture and integration strategy. Worked with Inviqa's CTO, product managers and the client's leadership team to scope requirements and define the integration approach for each third-party vendor.
  • Design feasibility. Reviewed design proposals against what Shopify can and can't do, so issues were found before build rather than during it.
  • Foundations. Built the initial project foundation in Shopify Liquid and helped the dev team get up to speed on the platform.
  • Rewards. Integrated a third-party rewards system into the storefront and built a custom rewards login app, coordinating with the external provider.
  • Subscriptions. Implemented a coffee subscription service using Shopify Subscriptions.
